With reference to my despatch No.574 of June 27th

last I have the honour to transmit herewith coŋy of a des-

patch from His Majesty'■ Consul-Gmeral at Canton offering

certain observations on the correspondence enclosed in a

despatch addressed to the Foreign Office by the Colonial (

fice on June 22nd on the subject of the protection to be.

forded to British subjects of Chinese descent in China.

While I am in general agreement with the songs

on pending the receipt of a copy of the Colonial office

patch under reference, which I have called for from Saiki
